Dwell Magazine, which showcases the best in modern design each month, issued a challenge to the architectural and building community: Construct an attractive prefab home for $200,000.
The goal for the magazine's first Dwell Home was to prove that manufactured modules could be pieced together to create a house with a well-orchestrated floor plan, custom finishes and sleek furnishings. The result is a sophisticated two-story house in hilly Pittsboro, North Carolina.
In the light-filled living and dining area, the Modern Fan Company's Cirrus ceiling fan is paired with an Eames lounge and ottoman, Aalto stool and Goetz sofa.
Each element of the house was approved by Dwell editors as well as their panel of advisors, from design curator Joseph Rosa to esteem contemporary architects Ray Kappe and Sarah Susanka.
The "brushed aluminum fans by Modern Fan Co. provide welcome breezes," wrote Dwell magazine editor Allison Arieff.
The second Dwell Home project is now well under way and Modern Fan Co. products have again been selected for use.
